AKRO fond novych ekonomik Finishes 2020 with A Positive Result

AKRO fond novych ekonomik finished the year up a respectable 5½ % in 2020. As predicted, in our 1st April blog: "The Only Thing We Have to Fear Is Fear Itself ", late March proved to be the nadir for the markets: The point of maximum Covid-19 related panic. Thereafter, the combination of fiscal and monetary stimulus, along with positive vaccine results, lifted markets through the remainder of the year.

So what now? While 2020 saw technology stocks perform particularly well, as the World went online, it is likely that 2021 will see a broader recovery. Emerging markets, battered by low commodity prices, look a prime beneficiary of global recovery. Countries such as Brazil, Russia and South Africa are large exporters of commodities, while China and India are significant importers. Commodity prices are therefore a good barometer of the health of emerging markets. The chart shows that historically, turning points in the prices of commodities, such as copper and oil, have coincided with turning points in the performance of emerging markets.

This steadily improving economic situation, combined with the low valuations of many emerging market stocks, provides a positive backdrop for the AKRO fond novych ekonomik as we move into 2021.
